Meet a volunteer who is responsible for many of the beautiful pictures you see on our Facebook, Instagram and website! Wen Jye, who is an avid photographer, uses his skills in a meaningful way, by volunteering with the SOSD Photography team.
Over the past two years, Wen Jye has volunteered his skills and time to taking pictures of SOSD rescue dogs at the shelter, at events, and at foster homes, so that the dogs can have a better chance of finding good homes.
“It has been very humbling volunteering for SOSD. The amount of dedication I saw in many volunteers is inspirational, to say the least . For example, Andrew, the Photography Team In-Charge, who wears many hats in SOSD and who not only guides us, but takes an interest to ensure each of us develops our photography skills.
Volunteering with SOSD also allows me to get to know amazing individuals who spend their time to feed and save stray dogs on their own. It is always a great honour photographing them at work. The pictures that we take not longer only tell the stories of our furry best friends, but also spread the cause that many of us believe in, and are fighting for.”
Wen Jye, who is a teacher by profession, also uses the opportunity to bring his experiences to his students, and educate them about kindness to animals.
“It is every teacher’s dream to be able to educate their students on issues they are passionate about. When I see the sparkle in my students’ eyes when they see a puppy from the shelter, or the looks of distress when they see a picture of a maggot-infested dog, the passion they bring when they help to sell merchandise to raise funds for a good cause, all these made me realise that I am way more than a photographer for the dogs, but an agent of change, who can help make Singapore a better place.”
We are looking for volunteers to join us in Team Photography! If you would like to join this meaningful cause, please learn more & sign up at: http://sosd.org.sg/join-us-as-volunteers/#6
