Here are a few areas that we seek volunteering for. We have volunteers who do help out in more than one area, so if anything piques your interest, do sign up anyway! Help is never enough, and all support is greatly appreciated!

Team Kennel (Limiting Recruitment: Regular volunteers for weekdays)
Commitment: Priority will be given to volunteers who are able to commit a minimum of once a week, on the same day(s), for at least 3 months. Volunteers who are serious, consistent and dedicated will greatly benefit our furry residents and shelter operations.
If you are volunteering for school CIP, please take note that the minimum commitment is 6 months (at least 3 times a month)
Duties:
- Doing fun activities with the dogs
- Wash and clean the kennels and common areas so that they are comfortable and sanitary for the dogs to live in
- Basic grooming and medical care for the dogs
- Report on any health or behavioural concerns of the dog assigned
Requirements:
- Commit a minimum of once a week, on the same day(s), for at least 3 months
- 18 years old and above
- Be comfortable with handling dogs
- Doesn’t mind long walks in the sun or drizzle
- Has initiative, keen to help and must not mind getting hands dirty
- Experience is beneficial but not necessary (training provided)
- Updated tetanus shot at any clinic (Shot can be done at Radium Medical Aesthetics Clinic for a discounted rate) *Appointment required
Team Rehoming – Full (Recruitment to reopen in Q2 of 2022)
Commitment: Able to independently handle rehoming cases for at least one year.
Duties:
- Work closely with fellow volunteers and staff to ensure dogs are adopted into good homes
- Adhere to SOSD’s Standard Operating Procedures to screen potential adopters or fosterers
- Conduct home visits to ensure our dogs’ well-being and be tireless with pre- and post-adoption follow-ups
- Be the point of contact for potential adopters and fosterers during the adoption process
- Timely submission of paperwork for each case
Requirements:
- Self-motivated team player
- Have experience with Singapore Specials as an adopter, fosterer or volunteer
- Be able to commit to your volunteer role for at least one year
- 21 years and above
- Independent and resourceful
- Comfortable with communicating with people from all walks of life to assess their suitability as adopters/fosterers
- Must be organized and meticulous enough to complete extensive checklists
- Have an eye for details and ability to discern, i.e., house visits
- Patient
- Possessing your own transport would be ideal, but not necessary
Team Transport (Full)
Commitment: Minimum once every two months.
Duties:
- Transport dogs and/or puppies e.g. visits to the vet, adoption drives, fosterers’ homes
- Transport big and small items from donors
- Transport equipment to and from adoption drives
- Occasionally assist in loading/unloading of items for transport
Requirements:
- Must be able to commit a minimum of once every two months
- Class 3 driver’s license
- Must possess own vehicle for transportation (van, car, etc.). Please specify:
- Vehicle type
- Residential location
- Timing available
- Experience with dogs not necessary (Please inform us when signing up)
- Must attend a 1h training session via Zoom on how to put a dog into and out of your car, handling tips, and other transport related matters
** Note: We do not always have dog carriers. Please be prepared for possible messes in your vehicle when transporting dogs (think pee, poo, vomit!).
Team Digital
Commitment: Minimum 2hrs a week (ad-hoc from the convenience of your own computer), for at least 6 months, but you should be able to commit regularly and promptly to update our website once a week.
Duties:
- Update SOSD website with new content
- Maintain, configure and troubleshoot WordPress website, Microsoft 365 and Google forms
- Assist and support other teams with web-related issues
Requirements:
- A computer with photo editing software
- Knowledge of WordPress and photo editing
- Familiarity with web standards
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities
Team Fundraising
Commitment: Able to commit for at least one year and for 3 times a week to follow up on fundraising matters of about 2 hours each. This is flexible as long as there is a commitment to complete tasks at hand.
Duties:
- Develop new and innovative fundraising activities for the charity and work closely with our fundraising officer
- Assist our fundraising officer with fundraising events such as charity dinner and flag day
- Attend adoption drives and manage the merchandise booth and donations
- Perform regular stock take of merchandise
Requirements:
- Marketing experience is an added advantage
- Experience in organizing events is an added advantage
- Experience in initiating fundraising campaigns for charities is an added advantage
- Able to work independently and adhere to strict timelines
Team Photographers (Full)
Commitment: Be able to commit a minimum of 1-2 times a month, for at least 6 months.
Duties:
- Capture shots of SOSD’s dogs & cover adoption drives (event)
- May need to travel around Singapore
Requirements:
- Must have at least intermediate skills in photography and/or videography
- Friendly, outgoing, comfortable interacting with members of the public
- Able to work independently and on weekends

Team Outreach
*** Note that outreach DOES NOT actively involve handling of dogs.
Commitment: Help out at SOSD events for at least 6 months + commit to at least 2 out of every 5 events (i.e. 40% attendance). Events vary (weekend/weekday, etc.).Duties:
- Set up and operate booths at adoption drives, carnivals and roadshows
- Hand out brochures
- Talk about SOSD
- May need to sell SOSD merchandise
- Conduct shelter tours for invited guests + members of public (training provided)
- Attend quarterly SOSD briefings (every 3 months)
- Assist in preparing presentations and programs
- Selected volunteers will also be trained to give talks at schools, institutions and companies, based on aptitude, experience, overall suitability (i.e., public speaking, mostly on weekdays)
Requirements:
- Commitment of at least 6 months with expected attendance of 40% (minimum)
- 16 and above (persons below 18 will require parental consent)
- Fluent in English / Mandarin is an advantage
- Outgoing, enjoy interacting with members of the public
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Teachers who are familiar with the CCE syllabus, experienced public speakers or media would be a big advantage
- Proficiency in design software is an added plus
Team Writers (FULL)
Commitment: Ad hoc, but you should be able to contribute articles regularly and adhere to deadlines.
Duties:
- Contribute articles to the bimonthly Woofsletter
- Contribute written content to the annual report
- Writing and editing tasks for other ongoing and ad-hoc projects (e.g. event posters, marketing collateral, website content, wedding favours)
Requirements:
- Must be able to contribute at least one article per month
- Meticulousness is a must to ensure grammatical and factual accuracy before content is published
- A good command of the English language
- A team player who understands the importance of meeting deadlines
- Not all written tasks are fun, and we need committed volunteers who understand the importance of quality written content in creating greater awareness for SOSD

Team Adoption Drive (On Hold)
Commitment: Minimum of one adoption drive every two months (usually on weekends).
Duties:
- Handle enquiries from members of public on your assigned pup/dog
- Refer any potential fosterers or adopters to the Rehomer on duty
Requirements:
- Must be able to commit a minimum of one adoption drive every two months at least
- Must be able to commit a minimum of one year
- 18 years and above
- Experience with dogs (preferred but not a must)
- Comfortable with communicating/interacting with people; proactive
- Attend packwalk on adhoc basis for continuous training
Team Video
Commitment: Be able to commit a minimum of 1-2 times a month, for at least 6 months.
Duties:
- Capture video footage of SOSD events, rescues
- Capture interviews of people for video
Requirements:
- Videos to be captured with a camera(preferred) or smartphone
- Prior experience with video editing
- Able to work independently
Team Clean (On Hold)
Commitment: Adhoc. Preferably able to commit once every 2 months (or more).
Please note that there will be strictly no walking, bathing or feeding of dogs.
Duties::
- To help clean the common areas of SOSD Rehabilitation Centre (SRC)
- Clean the crates and pick up poop around The Animal Lodge
- Assist Nipu, our supervisor, to clean kennels
Requirements:
- 18 years and above
- Groups, organisations and classes of a maximum of 20 people welcome!
- Comfortable with cleaning, not afraid to get dirty
Team TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) – Closed
Commitment: Participate in TNR operations at least once a fortnight. Commit to volunteering for at least 6 months. Able to commit to waiting for hours when trapping dogs — comfortable with the unpredictable nature of TNR ops.
Currently looking for:
Committed volunteers — we are looking to expand TNR ops and the core teamDuties::
- To help sterilise dogs for humane population control
- Trap dogs (group ops together with rest of the team)
- Arrange for logistics to get dog sterilised then sent to SRC for recuperation
- Arrange for dogs to be released back to original habitat
- Help to arrange for medical treatment of injured dogs
Requirements:
- 21 years and above
- Belief in the TNR method of humane stray-dog population control
- Able to work in a team
- Comfortable with handling feral dogs
- Doesn’t mind getting dirty, being exposed to weather and elements
- Preferable to have car/motorbike license or have own vehicle — many of the TNR ops are located in places that are difficult to get to
Team JIP (Jurong Island Project) – Closed
Commitment: Once a fortnight for at least 3 months. 3-4 hours per session.
Duties::
- Cleaning of Holding Areas, general housekeeping
- Help to feed dogs in Holding Areas, and tend to basic medical needs
- Feeding of stray dogs on Jurong Island
- Help to wash and clean the kennels and surrounding areas so that they are comfortable and sanitary for the dogs to live in
Requirements:
- Once a fortnight for at least 3 months. 3-4 hours per session
- 18 years and above
- Be comfortable with handling dogs – many of them are not used to human interaction and will require some experience
- Doesn’t mind working in the sun, and in a harsh environment
- Has initiative, keen to help and must not mind getting hands dirty
- Drives and has own transport in and out of Jurong Island
