Meet Estee, a mother, educator, and long-time SOSD volunteer whose journey with us began unexpectedly. While managing the challenges of her own reactive dog, Estee sought support and discovered how she could make a real difference by fostering young rescues. Since 2018, she’s been a crucial part of SOSD, helping dogs transition into loving homes.
Estee wears many hats at SOSD, she is our adoption drive IC, a fosterer and rehomer and she also crafts adoption posts for social media. She loves each role but finds fostering especially rewarding. One memorable moment was when a foster dog, who had been a handful due to skin issues and high energy, found her forever home. The new adopter gave Estee a hand-drawn card, expressing gratitude for her care. Even now, Estee keeps in touch with the dog, who has since moved to the UK.
For Estee, the most fulfilling part of volunteering is seeing the transformation in the dogs. “Many come in frightened, malnourished, and wary of humans, but with time, they heal and trust again,” she says. Being part of that journey, knowing she’s played a role in giving them a second chance, keeps her coming back. Volunteering has also brought her new friendships and taught her valuable lessons in patience and empathy.
Beyond the rewarding experiences, Estee values the sense of community SOSD has given her. Working alongside fellow volunteers who share her commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs has been both motivating and heartwarming. The collective effort reminds her that even small contributions can have a huge impact on the lives of the animals they care for.
Balancing her busy life isn’t always easy, but Estee manages by staying organized and practicing mindfulness. Despite the challenges, she’s committed to helping in whatever way she can, whether it’s for the dogs, the adopters, or her fellow volunteers.
We’re incredibly grateful for Estee’s dedication and the heart she brings to SOSD!
