Meet Zoe, a dedicated volunteer from our SOSD Team Digital! Currently in her final year at SIT, Digipen Institute of Technology, Zoe is studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts & Animation—though, in her own words, that essentially means Game Art. When she’s not immersed in the world of animation and gaming, Zoe has a deep passion for music and, of course, animals.

Zoe’s love for animals started at a young age, and she knew she wanted to give back the moment she turned 18. In 2019, despite her busy school schedule, she found a way to do just that by joining Team Digital at SOSD. Since then, she has been volunteering with us for nearly five years, dedicating her time to maintaining and updating the website.

As part of her role, Zoe makes sure that the adoptable and sponsorship pages stay up to date with the latest photos and information about the dogs. It’s her favourite part of her job because it allows her to witness firsthand the incredible journey each dog takes—from arriving at the shelter to eventually finding their forever home. Zoe says, “That is probably my favourite role, as I get to see the dogs that come in and eventually find their loving furever homes.”

Though she isn’t directly involved in the physical care or adoption process, Zoe cherishes the small moments that bring her joy. “Seeing older dogs who have been in the shelter for a long time get adopted makes me smile,” she shares. She’s also touched by seeing the dogs’ adorable photos as she updates their profiles.

One of Zoe’s most poignant memories is of Logan, a dog who sadly passed away at the shelter. Zoe had watched Logan grow older through the photos she updated over the years, always hoping he would find a loving home. “I felt incredibly sorry for him,” she reflects. “I feel that elderly dogs like Logan should be given a chance too.”

Balancing volunteering with her studies and other commitments isn’t always easy, but Zoe finds a way. She dedicates at least one day a week, usually on weekends, to focus on updating the SOSD website. For her, it’s been a deeply rewarding experience. “I have always wanted to help dogs find their home and knowing that in some way I’m able to help the shelter push towards that goal has kept me going all these years.”

Zoe’s compassion and dedication shine through in everything she does, and we’re so grateful to have her as part of the SOSD family. Thank you, Zoe, for helping our dogs find their forever homes, one profile at a time!
