Autumn will be a very happy girl if she can find a home. That is what all homeless dogs want – to have a place to call home – so that they will not have to roam the streets, and worry about being culled every day.
Autumn is very lucky as she is HDB approved under the ADORE program which allows medium-sized dogs in HDB apartments. However, she is only one out of 10 lucky rescued dogs that qualify. The current size restrictions of 50 cm, 15 kg means that only 10-15% of all homeless dogs can be allowed in HDB flats.
With thousands of dogs out there, and new puppy litters appearing everyday, the only way we can solve the stray dogs tragedy is if Singapore increases the size of ADORE-approved dogs.
SOSD President Dr Siew will be on 狮城有约 Hello Singapore today at 6.30 pm to speak about the ADORE program, and to speak about the rationale for pushing for an increase in the maximum size of dogs allowed in HDB apartments. Just an increase in the size limit of 10 cm and 5 kg will will allow 60% of rescued dogs to be rehomed.
SOSD, together with all Animal Welfare Groups in Singapore, will continue to do our best to work with the authorities and ministries to make this a possibility, and eventually a reality.
In the meantime, HDB-approved Autumn is still looking for a home. Click here to learn more about her and to adopt her.
