“We have been to many SOSD adoption drives since 2016, but it was not until the one held on 9 July 2017 at Paya Lebar Square when our eyes met Chandler for the very first time.
Chandler was rather timid. When my husband Alvin sneezed, we saw how startled Chandler was. Personally, I was not keen on Chandler as I was worried about the hard work of socializing and training him. However, we left the decision to our nine-year-old son Aidan. Of the many adorable dogs we saw, he “chose” Chandler, a five-month-old puppy as “The One”.
Chandler’s foster family (John & his son Josiah) and Valerie from SOSD visited us one night with Chandler. Chandler was uncomfortable as all eyes were on him and he growled because of his uneasiness. So we took him down for a walk by the pool and my heart literally melted as Chandler stopped walking abruptly, and stood still to look inquisitively at the swimmers. We also heard about his rescue story through Valerie. Chandler had fought to stay awake at the veterinarian surgery with his mum and three sisters after they were rescued by the SOSD team. With his three sisters already adopted, we now really wanted valiant Chandler.
The first few days were the toughest as our family members got into gear with the new routine. As the days went by, we saw Chandler opening up as we bonded closer as a family, and we basked in all the first moments with Chandler: his first shower, his first long walk to the East Coast beach, his first taste of steak and melon, his longest cuddle with us, etc. There was never a dull moment with this gem! While Chandler is still skittish, he also has so much unconditional love.
Chandler’s our perfect baby! We are grateful to be given this opportunity to have him as part of our family. We want to give a big barkey shout out to the wonderful barkalicious work of the volunteers, fosterers & adopters in SOSD!”
