As a family, we thought long and hard about adopting another dog after our last adopted dog passed away. I have always had dogs from ‘the pound’ as I have always felt a desire to rescue those dogs that have been neglected and rejected by others, and these turn out to be some of the most loving companions, once they are settled. After a long discussion with the family and knowing our existing pets (a dog, Scrap, and a cat, Squeaks) had no issues with the last resident stray, we decided to approach SOSD. They suggested Brandy and when I saw the picture they sent to us, I knew they had us! Her face is one of the cutest things I have ever seen and on meeting her, I was just so struck by how submissive and quiet she was, but scared and jumpy; always on edge and watching out for danger.
We have had her for about a month now and she is the sweetest thing. Initially, we laughed at having our very own ‘beanbag’; as when not on a walk, she spent all her time hiding in her basket. But slowly she started to come out of her shell and started to be interested in what was around her. She went from a dog who literally could not look you in the eye, and whose tail was constantly between her legs, to a dog whose tail is wagging when you get home and who has started to investigate the ongoings around the house.
It’s still the early days but we are so thrilled to have given such a sweet, quiet, gentle girl a good home where she can feel safe. We want to thank the team at SOSD for all the work they do and the time they put in to give these dogs good homes.
